Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get started?
Getting started is easy. Start collecting (and finding) all of your old photos and organize them together in collections that make sense to you in terms of how you would like to see your old photos become digital files. Some ideas include: Wedding Photos, High School, Grade School, Family, Sports, Travel/Trips,...
How do I prepare my photos for you?
You can put your old photo collections together for me in many ways. In boxes (big or small), in Zip-Lock bags, in your existing photo albums. It’s best to try your best to keep them together in groups or in years and if you can put them into the order that you would like to have them all scanned, even better. If you need help, I can offer that too.
Please tell me a bit about my Options for the “Date-Stamp” and “Titles” for my photos?
This is quite interesting and important. Please make sure you include and identify the approximate date of each particular batch of photos to be scanned, As an example, if you label a box of photos as: Winter 1967 – or just 1967, or maybe photos from 1970 – 1975, I will then ensure these important dates are part of the file name given to each scanned photo. This is important and helpful as you save them on your computer and/or your phone, these photos will be saved in chronological order based on these dates. This will make it much easier for you to always find them as you can just scroll through your collection and look for you pictures from the past. As well, if I add a name to the files, this might also help you identify them if this might be helpful to you,. Names like: Wedding, Birthday, Travel, School.
What type of File do you Create for my Scanned Photos?
All of your photos will be scanned at a very high resolution of 600 dpi (dots per inch) and saved as jpeg format files, which is the most
common file format for digital pictures
How will I Receive my Scanned Photos from You?
All of your digital photo files will be delivered to you through a cloud based dropbox file or Google Drive. If you are unfamiliar with this – I will help guide you through the process (which is actually quite easy). The reason I use dropbox and Google is because the files are typically quite large in size and with so many, large files, it can be difficult to send in email. If you’d like, I can also copy all of your files onto either a disk or a memory stick, or both.
Why will I be receiving 2 (of the same) files for each scanned photo?
You will notice that I will be sending you 2 files for each scanned photo. One, will resemble the original photo as close to how it looks. The other file will be an enhanced, colour-corrected and sharpened version and will often make your older photos look much better than what you give me.
What Size and Type of Photos can be Scanned?
I have a lot of flexibility here with this. I can scan old Polaroid photos, 3x5, 4x6, 5x7, 8x10 and anything up to 8-1/2 inches wide, including panoramic photos. I can scan old photos and black and white photos too.
How do I get my Photos to You?
Easy. We’ll just arrange to for you to drop them off at my house or, if you need me to come and get them from you, I can also drive to you to.
How do I get my Scanned Photos Back from You?
Also easy,.... Either come back and pick them up or again, if you need, I can arrange to have them dropped-off back to you at your home.
How much do you charge for your Photo Scanning and what form of Payment do you accept?
